Meet the Team :

Charles Haskell, the Managing Director of this Company, has been a regular organiser of visits to the battlefields in France and Belgium for over 20 years.

CRB checked, he often visits schools, colleges and other groups or youth organisations in the South of England, from his home in Portsmouth, to talk about World War 1.The talks are illustrated with rusty artefacts (nothing explosive NOW), photos and his enthusiasm!

Charles does a lot of work with the Army Cadet Force and Royal Marine Volunteer Cadet Corps taking them to the battlefields or giving them historical talks.

In the past he has had his own historical chat show on various local radio stations and has appeared on television both in the UK the USA and on BBC documentary film. Nowadays he presents another love of his life on radio, Country Music on Expressfm (www.expressfm.com/Default.aspx?tabid=138).

" I asked Grandma to tell me about the family. One of the first things she told me was that she had had a brother who was killed in WW1.

His name was Edward Aubrey Jackson and he was a rifleman with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC) when he died on the 3rd September 1916 aged 21. He died at about
5.30 am when his battalion attacked on the Somme, France near the village of Beaumont- Hamel .

I became interested in the study of WW1 and the more I read about it the deeper my interest grew. One day a friend offered to drive me out to the Somme. All we thought we would see would be fields and grass. However we were amazed at the sights that
greeted us. Trenches, cemeteries, battlefield - debris and French farmhouses with friendly farmers happy to show us their collections of artefacts.

We came back, told our friends and soon were driving them out for a look. Then following an article in a local paper (The Portsmouth News) about me taping conversations with surviving veterans, we started taking out groups in minibuses then coach-loads.

So my history tour business grew and that as they say was the easy bit !"

Sarah Haskell ( sarah@tellthemwecame.com )

- The company secretary who has visited the battlefields since she was little. ( Don't ask her about the mud ! ) Sarah also runs our Club details and the newsletter. Articles/pictures to her please.

Susan Haskell, - Experienced guide around the Somme and Ypres Salient. Sgt with Army Cadet Force.

Peter, ( peter@tellthemwecame.com ) - Very interested in all things historical, Peter has worked in retail, banking and finance for many years and also within the media. He classes himself as a bit of an anorak as he loves WWII aircraft. Now Peter looks after all of our technical "bits".

John ( john@tellthemwecame.com ) - I have been involved in the media now for 10 years and before that I was in the Retail sector for over 15 years. One of my driving forces is the pleasure in dealing with the public, this has been earned through several fun years in outlets in London’s West End.

Its my honour to be linked with Charles and Peter. We are able to offer a fantastic alternative to other companies, as well as a brilliant support network.

I know our tours are going to be in high demand, plus we offer some of the best knowledge of the areas around. I look forward to meeting you all very soon.
