GENERAL INFO : Our tours run from April until Nov.
The next tour in 2010 is advertised in the prices section. We usually run at least one trip per month between April and November. Please call us for the advance dates.
We take out groups and organisations, individuals and couples plus schools. Dates can be varied to cater for the groups. Min number in a group is 23.
Times of Departure
Please note that times given are correct at the time the information was first supplied but are subject to change. Correct times will be given in your Joining Instructions.
Passports
A standard ten year British passport is required for all tours to Europe for UK Citizens. The Passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of return travel.
Walking
On the battlefields it is necessary to walk across rough ground to get a good idea of the area being visited. Our travellers are advised that a fair amount of walking may be involved. Most of the battlefields visited are old with uneven ground or paths. It is important that you take extra care when walking and wear appropriate footwear.
COACH
Each modern coach is with you throughout the tour.
All seats are reserved and will be allocated in booking order.
Every effort will be made to keep couples or groups together but this cannot be guaranteed. The larger coaches usually have on board toilet, reclining seats, seat belts, video screens ,hot and cold drinks and snacks. Facilities are dependent on the size of the coach and numbers of passengers.(no smoking or drinking alcohol on the coach. However there will be plenty of breaks for the smokers travelling with us !)
All road tolls are included in the price.
FERRY
We use a variety of companies depending on the area to be visited.
Most of the crossings are Dover/Calais,approx one and a half hours.
On overnight crossings from Portsmouth it is sometimes possible to have a cabin and a small additional fee will be charged for this.( This cabin service is not guaranteed and is subject to availability on the ferry ). Otherwise we use the recliner chairs - bring your own blanket !
HOTELS
They range from 1 to 4 star. The vast majority we use are 3 star.
Continental breakfast is included in each Tour.
For Cadet groups evening meal is a set piece meal
On our other tours evening meal is not included as it is easier for people to choose their own meal rather than have a set meal.
We stay in hotels as close to our battlefield destination as possible. This cuts down the travel time and leaves more time for exploring. On combined Ypres/Somme tours it does mean travelling between the battlefields. For our smaller tours in a car or minibus with 1 or 2 individuals we are likely to use one of the many B and B's in the area
WREATH During our World War 1 and 2 visits it is usual to lay a wreath from our group as a whole at one of the memorials or cemeteries . We purchase Poppy wreaths from The Royal British Legion.
If YOU wish to remember someone special, please let us know and then we can try to visit that spot. Please let us know in advance of the trip and preferably not when we are actually travelling. If you wish us to provide a wreath for your own use please let us know and we can obtain one from the British Legion at a modest cost to you, with monies going to the Legion.
You can obtain more information about a cemetery ,grave or memorial from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, 2 Marlow Road, Maidenhead, Berks, SL6 7DX
Telephone: 01628 634221

May we also point out that over 1 million people died in the battlefield areas. The ground is regarded as hallowed in their memories so, "tread gently mortal lest you disturb the sleep of those resting below".
